Driver ICs amplify control signals to drive power switches (MOSFETs/IGBTs) or LED loads, spanning isolated and non-isolated gate drivers as well as LED drivers — the bridge between control and power stages in conversion and lighting circuits.
- Isolated drivers: check isolation voltage rating and CMTI; non-isolated drivers: check source/sink current capability
- Drive current must match the switching speed needed by the driven device, directly affecting its switching loss
- Whether dead-time control and UVLO protection are built in affects system reliability
- Automotive applications add EMI immunity and temperature-range requirements
