Power modules integrate multiple discrete power devices (MOSFETs, IGBTs, SiC, etc.) together with drive and protection circuitry in a single package, used in motor control, PV inverters and energy-storage converters. Compared with discrete designs, modules raise power density and simplify system design.
- Topology (three-phase bridge, boost, H-bridge, etc.) must match the end-equipment circuit to avoid redesign
- Check the module-level thermal path (substrate material, isolation voltage) and junction-to-case Rth, which set the usable power
- Automotive modules need vibration and thermal-cycling reliability qualification; industrial modules emphasize long-term stable operation
- Whether drive interface and protection (overcurrent/overtemp/undervoltage) are built in affects peripheral circuit complexity
