AM MiniLED backlight controller (BCon) ICs generate the local-dimming zone data and drive multiple downstream MiniLED backlight driver ICs over the SPB interface, forming the timing and zone-mapping core of a MiniLED backlight system, primarily used in premium TV and monitor backlight designs.
- SPB protocol generation (e.g. SPB-2M vs. SPB-16M) and lane count set how many driver ICs and dimming zones a single controller can address
- Zone count at the target refresh rate (e.g. @120Hz) must cover the display's local-dimming design
- Host interface (SPI/UART/IIC) must match the source-side (TCON/SoC) connection
- Package size and pin count affect PCB layout on the controller board
