LV & MV MOSFETs span roughly 12V to 230V breakdown voltage and are used in battery management, DC-DC conversion and motor drive — a common power switch for small/medium-power designs.
Reading the Key Parameters
- VDS_Max (drain-source voltage rating): listed parts span roughly 12V~230V. Select against bus voltage plus spike margin — insufficient margin risks breakdown.
- RDS(ON) (on-resistance, graded at VGS): listed parts range from about 0.3mΩ (PDFN/TOLL) to over 5Ω (SOT-23). Lower RDS(ON) cuts conduction loss but usually raises gate charge.
- Qg (gate charge): listed parts span roughly 0.8nC~347nC and trade off against RDS(ON) — high-frequency designs favor low Qg, low-frequency/high-current designs favor low RDS(ON).
- Package: PDFN5060-8L, TOLL, TO220/TO252/D2PAK and SOT-23 all appear, setting thermal capability and footprint; smaller packages mean less thermal margin.
- Automotive flag: the catalog includes both automotive-qualified and non-automotive parts; automotive parts correspond to AEC-Q101 screening and tighter failure-rate requirements.
Three Steps to Select
- Lock the VDS class against bus voltage plus spike margin;
- Trade off RDS(ON) against Qg based on switching frequency;
- Pick the package for thermal space and footprint; for automotive use, check the Automotive flag and avalanche rating (EAS).
Common Pitfalls
- Ordering on the lowest RDS(ON) figure alone while ignoring how typical/max values differ across VGS levels;
- Applying consumer-grade specs to automotive conditions without checking EAS and temperature margin;
- Assuming smaller packages are always better, overlooking the thermal cost.
